The effects of in vitro exposure to progesterone and estradiol-17β on the activity of canine neutrophils

چکیده
To date, only limited information about the influence of ovarian hormones on canine immune system cells has been available. The study investigated the in vitro influence of progesterone and estradiol-17β on the activity of canine neutrophils. Treatment of cells by both hormones led to a significant decrease in phagocytosisinduced oxidative burst as detected using luminometry after stimulation with opsonised zymosan. The increase in oxidative burst, not connected with phagocytosis, was recorded after stimulation with a soluble stimulator. Using flow cytometry, the tendency of both hormones to decrease the production of reactive oxygen species associated with phagocytosis of Escherichia coli was also evident, although not significant. Suppression of canine neutrophil activity is not connected with pathogen recognition capabilities, since the expression of Toll-like receptor 4 was unaffected. This study reveals that both hormones have a suppressive effect on the activity of canine neutrophils and thus might contribute to the aetiology of pyometra.

THE EFFECTS OF GLUCAGON, INSULIN AND S TEROID HORMONES ON PHOSPHATIDATE PHOSPHOHYDROLASE ACTIVITY IN RAT LIVERS
The effects of steroid hormones, glucagon and insulin on rat liver phosphatidate phosphohydrolase (PAP) activity were studied both in vitro and in vivo. Incubation of rat hepatocytes with each hormone showed that dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), progesterone and testosterone increase PAP activity by 44.6, 37 and 36.9%, respectively. Estradiol, however, decreased enzyme activity by 13.6% under...
متن کاملبررسی نسبت استرادیول به پروژسترون روز انتقال جنین و تاثیر آن روی نتایج تزریق داخل سیتوپلاسمی اسپرم
Background : One of the important problems in fertilization in vitro (IVF) is failure of implantation. This could be the result of estrogen and progesterone effects in endometrial acceptance during ovulation stimulation. Although progesterone has a vital role in primary phase of pregnancy, but the estradiol role in luteal phase is unknown. The aim of this study is assessment of the ratio of est...
متن کاملThe effect of 17β-estradiol on gene expression of calcitonin gene-related peptide and some pro-inflammatory mediators in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from patients with pure menstrual migraine
Objective(s):The neuropeptide calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) has long been postulated to play an integral role in the pathophysiology of migraine. Earlier studies showed that CGRP can stimulate the synthesis and release of nitric oxide (NO) and cytokines from trigeminal ganglion glial cells. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of 17β-estradiol in regulation of CGRP exp...
متن کاملSerum Liver proteins and 17β-estradiol in Postmenopausal Women with Breast Cancer
Background: Breast cancer is a hormone-dependent malignancy that is associated with estrogen and progesterone interactions. The liver is the most important organ to be affected by the metastasis of breast cancer, which causes functional impairment. We compared levels of obesity, 17β-estradiol, and secreted proteins in postmenopausal women with breast cancer but without hepatic symptoms to those...
